Sifu Haji Mahmood
has studied many different styles through his development including Western
Boxing at the age of nine, three years of Tae Kwon Do and six years of Muai
Thai, before finally finding Wing Chun in 1993.
Haji studied hard
and in 1997 was rewarded by being allowd to run his own class in Rotherham.
However, for reasons he never discusses, he felt he had to continue his search
for an instructor to help him develop further. That search led him to contact
Sifu Shaun Rawcliffe of the Midlands Wing Chun Kuen, senior western instructor
of Wing Chun's grandmaster, Ip Chun.
Since their first
meeting in 2001, Haji has regularly trained both at classes and privately with
Sifu Rawcliffe and in 2003, having retrained the complete Wing Chun system, he
was given permission to set up the Y.W.C.K. branch of the Midlands Wing Chun
Kuen Association.
Haji's dedication
and love of Wing Chun has never waivered, he still regularly trains with Sifu
Rawcliffe and has accompanied him twice to Hong Kong to meet and train with
Sifu Rawcliffe's teacher, grandmaster Ip Chun.
Ip Chun is the
eldest son of the late and legendary Grandmaster Yip Man (Bruce Lee's teacher
and said to be the founder of modern day Wing Chun). As tradition dictates,
after learning his Father's skills Ip Chun decided to pass them down to his
select students including Sifu Shaun Rawcliffe and now through his student,
Sifu Haji Mahmood, on to you. |
